Wienerschnitzel has opened its first military-base restaurant through the Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM), adding a new development channel while its six-site Walmart rollout continues.

The restaurant opened in early July at Naval Base San Diego. Wienerschnitzel announced it on July 22, 2026, identifying a Navy Exchange food-court location at 2260 Callagan Highway, Building 3187A. The announcement identifies Navy Exchange authorized patrons as its audience, including service members, civilian employees, and families. That makes the host institution central to understanding the restaurant's potential market. A count of residents or shoppers around the address would not, by itself, describe whom the exchange serves.

## A military opening follows the Walmart plan

Military bases were already on Wienerschnitzel's development list in May 2025. At that point, the brand announced six Walmart restaurants, each to be owned and operated by local franchisees. It expected them to open by fall 2025.

The planned cities were Puyallup, Washington; Alamogordo, New Mexico; Tempe, Arizona; Reno, Nevada; Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Bakersfield, California. The brand also named airports, theme parks, food courts, and convenience stores as other venues it was pursuing. The July update listed four Walmart openings: Tempe, Puyallup, Alamogordo, and Colorado Springs. Two more were expected later in 2026, beyond the original timetable. It gave no reason for the change. An interim announcement shows how the retail program progressed. On December 18, 2025, Wienerschnitzel described Puyallup as its second Walmart restaurant, tentatively expected to open within weeks. Tempe had opened first; four other cities remained planned. July's completed-location list supplies the later confirmation for Puyallup. That update also named the Puyallup operators: longtime franchise partners Domenic and Sharon Baker. The mother-and-son team had operated in Everett since the late 1990s and added Fife in 2020. The Walmart expansion thus gave existing brand operators another venue for growth, alongside the recruitment effort described in May. The December release also mentioned a military-base project without identifying the installation or an opening date. The July release identifies San Diego as the brand's first military opening.

## A familiar menu in a different operating setting

Wienerschnitzel described a full menu for both formats. The Navy release lists hot dogs, fries, burgers, jalapeño poppers, and beverages. The full-menu commitment matters to kitchen planning. Retaining that range leaves the kitchen responsible for several product categories, even though the dining setting differs from a freestanding restaurant. The release does not provide a layout or equipment list.

The Walmart release specifies local franchise ownership; the Navy announcement cites a NEXCOM contract without naming the operator. Those disclosures leave different questions for a prospective franchise partner. Joining a retail rollout and participating in an exchange contract need not involve the same responsibilities or rights.

The announcement provides no rent, required hours, investment, or sales figures. That leaves the financial comparison open. The evidence supports a narrower development conclusion: the brand has completed its military debut while the earlier retail program is still moving toward completion.
