Denny’s launched a national catering platform on August 18 with more than 400 restaurants available through ezCater. Hundreds more were expected in the following weeks, while ordering through Dennys.com remained a future addition.
The company announcement describes a dedicated menu that includes a Grand Slam Buffet Bundle, Grand Slamwiches, a Build Your Own Burger Bar and chicken wings. Individual options include a Grand Slam Breakfast Box and Chicken Bacon Sandwich Box.
Denny’s said packaging was designed to retain heat. The announcement supplies no temperature-test results. The mix of buffet formats and individual boxes gives group buyers choices about how food will be distributed.
The company presented catering as a way to add weekday daytime business using existing restaurant teams, kitchens and routines. It identified the rollout as the first major initiative taken from strategy to national execution under Project Grand Slam.
The initial launch puts a dedicated group menu in front of the marketplace’s workplace buyers. Broader restaurant participation and the brand’s own ordering channel were the next announced steps; the company gave no measured profit result.
The platform’s survey describes a changing workplace buyer#
An ezCater report released March 10 describes the workplace buyers the platform serves. The vendor commissioned an online survey in October 2025 of 602 leaders overseeing cafeterias and 1,000 full-time U.S. employees who worked on-site at least once a week.
Among the surveyed organizations, 51% had reduced cafeteria hours. Among leaders at hybrid organizations, 68% said hybrid schedules made cafeteria management difficult. The report also said 82% of leaders considered flexibility critical to their food programs.
Those findings concern the surveyed employers and workers. They are not an independent census of workplace meal purchases, nor do they measure demand for a particular restaurant’s catering menu.
The underlying purchasing problem is concrete: a workplace with uneven attendance may need different food quantities on different days. A permanent cafeteria schedule and a meal ordered for a specific meeting address that need differently. The survey supports that context as the vendor’s reported research; it cannot establish how many orders any newly listed restaurant will receive.
Packaging choices serve different group routines#
In a January 28 guide to meals for hybrid workplaces, ezCater writer Grace Trumpfeller described several ordering formats. Individually packaged meals allow employees to collect food when their breaks differ and make it easier to distribute separate selections.
Build-your-own meals let people choose components and portions. The guide also discusses portable options such as sandwiches and wraps. These formats address how a group receives its food, not just the cuisine it orders.
That distinction matters when an organizer chooses between a shared serving station and separate boxes. A buffet requires a place for people to assemble meals. Individual packages can be handed out or collected separately, although the buyer still needs to account for the number of attendees and their selections.
For breakfast, the guide points buyers to the platform’s breakfast filter, then menu selection and delivery scheduling. Its headcount setting lets the organizer match a search to the group’s size and budget.
