Bear Robotics introduced Servi Q on May 16 at the National Restaurant Association Show, pitching a service robot for restaurants whose narrow passages limit larger machines’ access to tables.
The launch announcement claims an 18-inch minimum passage width. That is a navigation specification, not the robot’s physical width. Bear also says the machine can reverse when there is insufficient room to turn.
Its description of backward obstacle detection is specific: the robot automatically stops when it detects a bump during reverse movement. Bear also lists a wheel-cleaning mode and a design intended to resist tangles.
Developed with SoftBank Robotics, Servi Q is intended to coordinate paths with other Bear robots through peer-to-peer communication. Bear illustrates a mixed fleet with a larger robot serving the main dining room while Q handles tighter areas.
These are manufacturer claims. The May 16–19 show offers live demonstrations, while regional launch schedules and phased rollout dates remain subject to change. The announcement supplies neither independent restaurant trial results nor a published price for comparing that capability with other equipment.
The earlier Plus emphasized carrying capacity#
Bear’s March 6, 2023, Servi Plus release documents the company’s earlier focus on heavier loads. It specified an 88-pound payload and capacity for more than 16 dishes, with up to four oversized serving trays or bus tubs.
The announcement presented suspension as another design priority, claiming the robot could carry liquids over varied flooring, thresholds and ramps. It also described responsive lighting around the machine and a dot-matrix display for custom messages.
Those features address different parts of a service trip. Carrying capacity determines how much can move in a load. Suspension concerns what happens to that load in transit. Lighting and messages give people sharing the floor a way to recognize and interpret the moving equipment.
The release positions that capacity for both running food orders and returning used dishes. A large dining-room run with multiple plates places different demands on equipment than a short trip carrying drinks. The 2023 release establishes intended capabilities; it does not quantify completed trips per hour in either setting.
The catalog shows why dimensions are only one input#
Bear’s 2024 product catalog lists Servi Plus at 21 by 23 by 48 inches and 136 pounds. The older Servi measures 17.5 by 17 by 41 inches, with a listed 66-pound payload. These measurements describe machines, not the clearances needed for every maneuver.
The same catalog describes installation as an on-site process. Field engineers map individual floor plans and develop workflows for the business. Staff training and subsequent process improvement appear alongside the hardware specifications.
Its Bear Universe platform lets users monitor performance across locations and update service maps, software and preferences remotely. The catalog names successful deliveries, distance traveled and mission success among the reporting measures. Its illustrated dashboard is not evidence of a universal success rate.
These catalog pages show that deployment already involved a floor plan, a configured route and people trained to use the system. The useful operating unit is the completed service trip, including loading, movement and unloading. Machine dimensions describe only one part of that trip.
