Eggs Up Grill's April update and March announcements illustrate two paths to multi-unit growth. One recruits an established restaurant group; the other follows an owner who rose through the system.

The breakfast and lunch chain said April 9 that more than 60% of its franchisees were operating or developing multiple restaurants. It reported same-store sales growth above 4%, its 21st consecutive positive quarter. Those figures describe sales growth at comparable restaurants and participation in multi-unit development. The company did not disclose a comparable-store methodology or franchisee profit figures. Eggs Up Grill's quarterly announcement

The combined ownership-and-development measure includes operators whose additional restaurants have yet to open. Two named examples show what sits beneath that headline: Metz Group's planned Pennsylvania expansion and Conley McIntyre's newly opened 10th restaurant in South Carolina.

A restaurant group chooses its next concept#

Eggs Up Grill announced the Metz partnership on March 4. The release described a family-owned organization with experience involving Ruth's Chris Steak House, Dunkin', Chick-fil-A and TGI Fridays. Metz began evaluating growth brands in 2018 and resumed its expansion efforts after the pandemic.

Rick Sell, Metz's vice president of operations, identified the daytime-only format, company culture and support system as reasons for choosing Eggs Up Grill. The agreement therefore adds an operator bringing experience from other restaurant businesses, rather than someone learning ownership through an existing Eggs Up Grill location. March partnership announcement

For Metz, the concept provides a defined breakfast-and-lunch proposition within a broader hospitality background. Sell's explanation makes the choice more specific than a general appetite for expansion: the group selected a particular service window and operating relationship. Those are its stated reasons for signing, rather than evidence of returns from restaurants already serving guests.

The April update supplies the next milestone. Metz and Eggs Up Grill plan multiple Pennsylvania locations, with the first in Stroudsburg expected in late May. The release does not give a total restaurant commitment or report that Pennsylvania site as open.

An owner advances through the existing system#

McIntyre's Cherrydale restaurant offers a different kind of evidence. In a March 9 announcement, Eggs Up Grill said the location at 3203 N. Pleasantburg Drive was open and was his 10th restaurant.

The March release dates his start to five years earlier, as a greeter after his mother acquired her first Eggs Up Grill franchise. He later became a general manager as the family added locations. When she retired, he bought the business and expanded his ownership across South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia. Cherrydale opening announcement

That progression matters because acquisition and new development both contributed to the ownership story. He moved through customer-facing work, restaurant management and the purchase of an existing family business before reaching this opening.

The company says Cherrydale serves guests daily from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., with dine-in, online ordering and catering. It is a completed addition to his portfolio, unlike the Pennsylvania opening still on the calendar.

The two cases reveal different stages of growth. Metz adds an experienced development partner with a Pennsylvania opening ahead. McIntyre adds an operating restaurant after progressing through the brand's own management and ownership ranks.
