Miso Robotics announced June 24, 2026, that it had acquired Zume Pizza’s technology and intellectual property, adding assets it intends to use for product development and patent licensing.
The company announcement describes more than 300 patents spanning robotic food preparation, delivery, packaging and sustainability. Miso supplied the count without an accompanying patent list in the release. Chief Executive Rich Hull announced the technology and IP purchase. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Miso says the assets can support new features in its existing platform and expansion into adjacent products. It also identifies licensing and enforcement as intended uses of the patent holdings. These are different routes for commercializing technology, with no named Zume-derived product or installation timetable supplied.
The acquired assets are technology and IP from a business that had wound down. The announcement does not describe buying an operating restaurant network or restarting Zume’s pizza service. For restaurant customers, the immediate change is ownership of a technology portfolio, followed by the work needed to turn those rights into supported products.
Miso’s Flippy pilots show the commercial work still required#
Miso’s 2025 annual report, filed April 20, 2026, describes how its existing Flippy product reaches restaurants. A pilot includes equipment, staff training and support, with each customer setting its own evaluation criteria.
The report says management reset pilot parameters to avoid engagements lasting more than a few months. Jack in the Box’s pilot ended with removal of its remaining robot in November 2025. Miso entered a three-month Levy Restaurants pilot on February 12, 2026.
As of March 31, 2026, the company reported 10 third-generation Flippy units deployed to White Castle, Insert Coin and Levy after earlier generations were removed. That installation count predates the Zume transaction.
Following an evaluation, a customer may enter a longer master services agreement covering hardware, software and support. The report says Miso generally invoices customers monthly under agreements with an initial term lasting several years.
Engineering tools support development before deployment#
An October 22, 2024, NVIDIA announcement names Miso as a user of Isaac ROS for Flippy. NVIDIA said the goal was to improve Flippy’s speed, efficiency and accuracy. Isaac ROS is a set of computing packages and models built on the open-source Robot Operating System 2 framework.
NVIDIA’s same announcement describes simulation as a way to test robots before putting them into service. Its Isaac Sim environment connects with ROS packages so developers can evaluate robot behavior virtually. Reference workflows for manipulation address tasks such as picking up and placing objects or following them.
Miso’s annual report also says it used NVIDIA’s cuRobo for robotic-arm motion and Isaac Sim to develop and test features before production.
These tools address different development jobs: testing robot behavior virtually and supplying reusable software for perception and movement. They help explain the engineering foundation behind Flippy without establishing a finished product from the Zume assets. The acquisition broadens the technology Miso can pursue or license. Restaurant deployment still involves a customer evaluation, staff training and continuing hardware and software support.
