The Wendy’s Company brought its Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger back to U.S. restaurants on August 3, 2026, using the returning sandwich to lead a fall menu.

The burger won the company’s earlier Bring It Back bracket, according to its August announcement. Its companions are a Pretzel Bacon Pub Chicken Sandwich, Bacon Pub Fries and an Apple Crumble Frosty Fusion. All are limited-time offerings.

The burger pairs a pretzel bun and beef patty with beer cheese sauce, bacon, smoky honey mustard, crispy onions, pickles and Muenster. The chicken version uses Wendy’s Classic filet. Fries carry beer cheese, shredded cheddar and bacon crumbles.

Apple Crumble combines Vanilla Frosty with spiced apple syrup and oat crumble. The pub flavors therefore reach sandwiches and a side, while the dessert supplies a seasonal finish.

The pub recipe predates the vote#

Wendy’s September 1, 2020, introduction helps explain the returning sandwich. The original Pretzel Bacon Pub belonged to its Made to Crave line and combined those same core flavor elements. Its patty weighed approximately a quarter-pound before cooking.

That launch also offered a chicken substitution using the Homestyle filet. Chicken was therefore part of the original pub proposition, rather than a later addition.

The 2020 release positioned the product around gastropub flavors and requests for pretzel bread. Chief Marketing Officer Carl Loredo described listening to customers who wanted pretzel back. John Li, then vice president of culinary innovation, discussed adapting ingredients and techniques associated with gastropubs to a Wendy’s cheeseburger.

Those explanations show that the first launch already linked a familiar bread with a more elaborate sandwich build. The pretzel bun carried recognition, while the sauces, cheese and toppings supplied the pub identity. Chicken broadened that original proposition beyond beef.

The current comeback adds a named voting result, but Wendy’s supplies no vote totals or sales forecast. A fan preference does not establish purchasing frequency.

Fusions brought a different kind of menu expansion#

The dessert has its own operating history. On April 10, 2025, Wendy’s announced two formats: Swirls added sauces, while Fusions combined sauces with solid mix-ins. It scheduled nationwide Fusion availability for May 12.

The initial recipes included strawberry sauce with Pop-Tarts pieces, brownie batter sauce with Oreo pieces, and caramel with toffee. Wendy’s also announced updated restaurant equipment for mixing Fusions, alongside redesigned cups, domed lids and a custom spoon.

Wendy’s staged that introduction: app users could order Swirls beginning April 11, followed by nationwide availability April 15. Fusions had a later launch date, giving the two formats distinct debuts.

Swirls let customers choose a Frosty flavor, then one of three sauces. Fusions paired sauces with specified sweet mix-ins. The announced mixing equipment addressed preparation, while the cups, lids and custom spoon addressed serving and eating. That divided the change between kitchen work and the customer’s experience.

Apple Crumble now uses that mixing format with spiced apple syrup and oat crumble, adding a seasonal recipe to the dessert system announced in 2025.

The fall menu pairs a sandwich revival with a dessert variation.
