Fast-casual sales rose 2.65% year over year while full-service sales fell 2.23% in MarginEdge’s September report, published October 12. The trailing 28-day averages through September 30, 2026 leave a gap of 4.88 percentage points, by QSR.pro’s calculation.
In its earlier July 2026 report, published August 10, both formats had positive readings: 2.76% for fast casual and 1.23% for full service. That was a 1.53-percentage-point gap between trailing 28-day year-over-year averages through month-end.
MarginEdge says the reports draw on aggregated, anonymized sales and invoice data from more than 12,000 platform restaurants across the United States and Canada. The comparison is between published readings; the July and September methodology statements do not specify whether they used an identical restaurant sample.
